Plymouth have completed the signing of Colchester captain Karl Duguid for an undisclosed fee, and are set to field him at right-back.

The long-serving midfielder made 442 appearances during 14 years at Layer Road and led the Us to promotion from League One in 2005.

Pilgrims boss Paul Sturrock told the club's official website: "I am very pleased to have Karl on board. He's a player I have seen many times when he's played against my teams and he's always impressed me."

The versatile 30-year-old, who was recently voted Colchester's best player of all time by the club's supporters, has penned a two-year deal at Home Park.

Sturrock added: "I think he will benefit from the new challenge and it will bring an edge to his game."
