Rangers forward Alan Gow has turned down the chance to join Burnley.

The 25-year-old former Falkirk player, who joined Rangers last summer, had been in negotiations to move south.

But he could not agree terms with Championship club Burnley, who had hoped he would move to Turf Moor as part of the deal which has taken Kyle Lafferty to Ibrox.

Unless the Scotland B star's move can be revived, Rangers will have to pay Burnley an additional sum as part of the Lafferty package, having initially offered Gow in part-exchange.

Gow's agent Phil McTaggart told the Daily Record: "Alan will be back at Rangers next season and will report for pre-season training next Wednesday to try and force his way into Walter Smith's plans.

"There has been a great deal of talk about Alan leaving but he's opted to remain where he is and prove himself after a disappointing first season at the club."

Gow played just two matches, against East Fife and East Stirling, last season.

Burnley last night set a deadline of midnight next Thursday for the Gow deal to go through, but he is reluctant to take a pay cut to improve his chances of first-team action.

McTaggart said: "He has two years left on his contract and has the belief he can still be a success as a Rangers player."
